National Ballet Exams

The Cecchetti Council of America is responsible for developing and administering the Cecchetti examination syllabus and standards. The CCA offers a series of graded examinations, ranging from beginner levels to advanced professional levels. These exams cover theoretical knowledge, barre work, center work, adages, and enchaînements. They are designed to help students develop technical proficiency, artistic expression, and a high quality of movement in the Cecchetti style. A Board of Cecchetti Council of America Examiners conducts the exams. 
The Cecchetti method and its examinations are recognized as a respected and rigorous system of classical ballet training. 

The Cecchetti method of ballet training is a comprehensive and disciplined approach that meticulously considers anatomical principles, aiming to equip dancers with essential attributes such as balance, poise, strength, elevation, and elasticity. Students learn to perceive foot, leg, arm, and head movements not as isolated actions but as interconnected elements that contribute to overall body dynamics. This program is led by Caroline Behan, a Certified Cecchetti Instructor and member of the CCA.

For students pursuing a more serious path, the initial two student grades focus on establishing proper alignment of the torso, hips, and legs while respecting anatomical constraints. Additionally, there is an emphasis on the coordination of arms and head, fostering smooth transitions throughout the exercises.

The decision to present students for National Ballet Exams rests with the director. Each student’s readiness for the exams is unique, leading to varying timelines for progression through the levels. While dancers may be prepared to present within a year, this timeframe is not fixed. Some students may require additional preparation time, as the complexity and duration of the material increase with each level.
